Although biologics have improved Crohn's disease (CD) management, surgery is still required for severe strictures or penetrating disease. Endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) is widely used for postoperative strictures and provides symptom relief; however, its potential preventive effect on surgical recurrence remains unclear. In addition, prognostic factors for surgical recurrence have not been fully established.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive and lethal cancer, with a 5-year survival rate of <13%. Despite advances in diagnostics and treatments, the standard of care for PDAC remains inadequate, and most patients develop resistance to therapy. Targeted approaches, such as Kirsten rat sarcoma (KRAS) inhibition, have shown promise in preclinical models, although clinical application remains challenged by the rapid development of resistance. The phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway is critical for PDAC development and maintenance, yet pharmacologic targeting has failed to yield significant clinical benefits.

Given the evidence that poor glycemic control is associated with immunological dysfunction, serum glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), as a useful indicator reflecting blood glucose homeostasis, has potential to predict infectious complications. In this study, we aimed to explore the association between poor glycemic control (HbA1c ≥ 6.5 as an indicator) and infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN) in patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP).

While serum ferritin is recognized as a marker of liver injury and inflammation, its prognostic value for cirrhosis-related complications is not well established. We investigated whether serum ferritin levels could predict complications in cirrhotic patients.

Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) presents with either oesophageal or extra-oesophageal symptoms, or both. The association between symptom subtypes and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGIE) findings has been rarely studied in Nigeria. Our study aimed to determine the pattern of symptom subtypes and UGIE abnormalities, as well as their association in patients with GORD symptoms in Nigeria.
