The prognostic value of dobutamine stress hemodynamic data in the setting of low-gradient aortic stenosis has been addressed in small, single-center studies. Larger studies are needed to define the criteria for selecting the patients who will benefit from valve replacement.

Elevated serum C-reactive protein (CRP) is of clinical significance in the management of acute coronary syndromes, but there have been few in vivo studies detailing the relation between lesion morphology and elevated CRP in the setting of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In this study, we investigated the relation between lesion morphology as seen under preintervention intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and CRP in the acute phase of AMI.

The pulsatile nature of pulmonary blood flow is important for shear stress-mediated release of endothelium-derived nitric oxide (NO) and lowering pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) by passive recruitment of capillaries. Normal pulsatile flow is lost or markedly attenuated after Fontan-type operations, but to date, there are no data on basal pulmonary vascular resistance and its responsiveness to exogenous NO at late follow-up in these patients.

Atherosclerosis preferentially develops at average low shear stress (SS) locations. SS-related signaling maintains lumen dimensions by inducing outward arterial remodeling. Prolonged plaque accumulation at low SS predilection locations explains an inverse relation between wall thickness (WT) and SS. No data exist on WT-SS relations when lumen narrowing and loss of compensatory remodeling commence.

In stable coronary artery disease (CAD), exercise training has well-documented positive effects on arterial endothelial function. NO derived from endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) is regarded as a protective factor against atherosclerosis. 3137. Determination of the upper limit of vulnerability using implantable cardioverter-defibrillator electrograms.
The upper limit of vulnerability (ULV) correlates with the defibrillation threshold and can be determined with 1 episode of ventricular fibrillation (VF). To automate the ULV in an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), the most vulnerable intervals must be identified from an ICD electrogram rather than the latest-peaking surface T wave (Tpeak). We hypothesized that the recovery time (TR), defined as the maximum derivative (dV/dt) of the T wave of the shock electrogram, correlates with the most vulnerable intervals.

To investigate early events possibly related to the development of diabetic angiopathy, we examined whether 8-iso-prostaglandin F2alpha (8-iso-PGF2alpha) formation, a marker of in vivo oxidant stress, is altered in different stages of type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and whether it correlates with the rate of thromboxane (TX) A2 biosynthesis, a marker of in vivo platelet activation. We also investigated the relationship between inflammatory markers and F2-isoprostane formation in this setting.
