Modern concepts on the etiology and pathogenesis of malignant tumors are reported, two basic links being distinguished-genetic factors and environmental factors--modifying ones. The specific weight of both factors in the etiology and pathogenesis of different oncological affections is varied. Based on the analysis of the modern concepts of the origin and development of a tumor the authors have elaborated a working scheme of selection of oncological risk groups among the population. The modifying factors being of primary importance for tumor growth are grouped by the authors into exogenous and endogenous ones. It is suggested to judge the degree of their manifestation in different individuals by the duration of their effect. The working scheme concerned may provide a logical basis for assessment of risk groups in various oncological lesions, but it needs some further verification in clinical practice.
2127. [Molecular biological aspects of neoplastic transformation].2128. [Cytogenetic study of peripheral blood lymphoid cells in children with lymphogranulomatosis].
In 6 untreated patients the chromosome set of lymphoid cells in the peripheral blood was studied. It was shown that there were quantitative and structural changes of the karyotype arising yet at the early stage of the process. This offers an opportunity to use the cytogenetic test for establishing the differential diagnosis between lymphogranulomatosis and reactive lymphadenitis.
2129. [Hereditary determination of retinoblastoma (inheritance characteristics)].2130. [Effect of ftorafur and 5-fluorouracil on the chromosomes of human tumor cell cultures].
The effect of two antitumour drugs, ftorafur (Ft) and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) on chromosomes of human tumour cells (strain CA-1) was studied in vitro. Since no data on the karyotype of this tumour strain had been published, the chromosome set of the model was investigated at first. Significant quantitative and structural divergence from the normal human male karyotype were observed. Steam line cells contained 47-49 chromosomes, including 9 permanent markers. No Y-chromosome was revealed. Ft and 5-FU hardly injured the chromosomes of CA-1 cells; the level of aberrant metaphases reached 94%. Chromatid deletions and gaps formed the major part of drug-induced cytogenetic abnormalities.
2131. [Cytogenetic characteristics of transplantable mouse tumors].
The cytogenetic control of 17 mouse tumor cell strains from of the collection of the bank of the Centre for Oncology Research of the AMS USSR was made: 4 leukemias (L-5178Y, L-1210, L-1210 resistant to 6-mercaptopurine, P-388), 2 sarcomas (S-180, S-298), 8 carcinomas (Ehrlich ascitic carcinoma, carcinoma 755,6-mercaptopurine resistant carcinoma 755, lung cancer LC-67, cervical cancer CC-2, cervical cancer CC-5, stomach cancer GC-5), 2 melanomas (B16, S91) and 1 plasmocytoma (MOPC 21). A comparison of their cytogenetic features allowed a conclusion to be drawn on the absence of any contamination among 14 strains of this collection. Carcinoma 755, sarcoma 298 and leukemia L-5178Y need some further examination for such inference to be valid.
2132. [Clinical morphological, cytogenetic and genealogical studies of patients with chronic monocytic leukemia].
The introduction in clinical practice of modern methods of cytogenetic assays offers new opportunities in studying the nature of leukemia. Up to date, however, no due attention was given to the recognition of chromosome disorders in patients with chronic monocytic leukemia (CML). Study on the karyotype in 20 patients with chronic monocytic leukemia indicated that chromosome anomalies lie in both the changed chromosome number and their structure, in the phase of marked clinical manifestations these changes being increased, while in the stage of remission--being reduced. A rather high incidence of malignancies in near relations of patients with CML supports a suggestion of the related pathogenetic mechanisms underlying leukemia and malignant tumors.

In embryonal human cell culture there was found the biological activity of DNA preparations, obtained from peripheral blood cells of acute leukemia patients, which was manifested in the production of virus-like RNA-containing particles, as evidenced by the radioisotope analysis findings and by the reverse transcriptase content in these particles. Also, a rapid growth of the cultures was noted. The DNA preparations from rhabdomyosarcoma, neurinoma and synovial sarcoma in man would cause only an enhancement of human embryonal cell cultures growth. No production of virus-like particles in the latter was noted.
2137. [Diagnosis of malignant lung tumors according to the data of the cytogenetic analysis].2138. [Changes in the resistance of different strains of mice to tumor development in the presence of immunologic responses].
The experiments on adult mice of varions breed lines have shown that direction of change of the resistance to cancer under conditions of the same immunological influence can be determined by genetic properties of an organism. The author believes that it is worthy of attention that anticancer resistance decreases only in that lines of mice in which was observed some predisposition to appearing of condition of allergy to tuberculine, as it was shown in experiments using the full adjuvant of Freund.
