2244. Iris heterochromia and unilateral eyelash hypertrichosis.
An 87-year-old female with a history of open-angle glaucoma presented with longer, thicker eyelashes on the right side compared to the left. Her irides were also different colors, as the right iris was brown and the left was hazel (green-brown). The patient had noticed a gradual darkening of her right iris and lengthening of her eyelashes over the last year, but denied visual changes or foreign-body sensation. Past medical history included a remote history of breast cancer treated by lumpectomy and radiation therapy, cerebrovascular accident, hypercholesterolemia, and hypertension. Her medications included bimatoprost, atenolol, atorvastatin, and clopidogrel.
2247. Stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: a systematic review.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with an increase in mortality and morbidity, with a substantial increase in stroke and systemic thromboembolism. Strokes related to AF are associated with higher mortality, greater disability, longer hospital stays, and lower chance of being discharged home than strokes unrelated to AF.

Amyloid-β positron emission tomography (PET) imaging allows in vivo detection of fibrillar plaques, a core neuropathological feature of Alzheimer disease (AD). Its diagnostic utility is still unclear because amyloid plaques also occur in patients with non-AD dementia.

Cerebral amyloid-β aggregation is an early pathological event in Alzheimer disease (AD), starting decades before dementia onset. Estimates of the prevalence of amyloid pathology in persons without dementia are needed to understand the development of AD and to design prevention studies.

Noninvasive ventilation delivered as bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) is often used to avoid reintubation and improve outcomes of patients with hypoxemia after cardiothoracic surgery. High-flow nasal oxygen therapy is increasingly used to improve oxygenation because of its ease of implementation, tolerance, and clinical effectiveness.
