We recently reported use of tissue-based transcriptomic biomarkers (microRNA [miRNA] or messenger RNA [mRNA]) for identification of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in patients with invasive submucosal colorectal cancers (T1 CRC). In this study, we translated our tissue-based biomarkers into a blood-based liquid biopsy assay for noninvasive detection of LNM in patients with high-risk T1 CRC.

Sulfation is a conjugation reaction essential for numerous biochemical and cellular functions in mammals. The 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS) synthase 2 (PAPSS2) is the key enzyme to generate PAPS, which is the universal sulfonate donor for all sulfation reactions. The goal of this study was to determine whether and how PAPSS2 plays a role in colitis and colonic carcinogenesis.

Thermal ablation of the defect margin after endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR-T) for treating large (≥20 mm) nonpedunculated colorectal polyps (LNPCPs) has shown efficacy in a randomized trial, with a 4-fold reduction, in residual or recurrent adenoma (RRA) at first surveillance colonoscopy (SC1). Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an acquired pre-thrombotic autoimmune condition, which produces autoantibodies called antiphospholipid antibodies (APL) against phospholipid-binding plasma proteins. The diagnosis of APS requires at least one of Sapporo standard clinical manifestations and one laboratory criteria (persistently medium/high titer anticardiolipin antibodies, and/or medium/high titer anti-β2-glycoprotein I antibodies, and/or a positive lupus anticoagulant test). Gastrointestinal lesions are rarely reported in APS patients. APS cases with recurrent abdominal pain as the first clinical manifestation are even rarer.
