6185. Small bowel obstruction and strangulation secondary to an adhesive internal hernia post ESWL for right ureteral calculi: a case report and review of literature.
Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a relatively safe and convenient mode of treatment for ureteral and renal stones, despite its relative safety; ESWL is not without its complications. We present a case of a patient we managed for small bowel obstruction and strangulation due to an adhesive internal hernia after ESWL was done because of right ureteral calculi.

6189. Linaclotide for the treatment of refractory lower bowel manifestations of systemic sclerosis.
Lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract involvement can affect up to 50% of systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients, and may result in malabsorption, pseudo-obstruction, hospitalization, and death. We report our experience with linaclotide, a selective agonist of guanylate cyclase C (GC-C), for SSc patients with refractory lower GI disease.

Prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer (CRC) is a global priority, with many countries conducting population-based CRC screening programs. Although colonoscopy is the most accurate diagnostic method for early CRC detection, adherence remains low because of its invasiveness and the need for extensive bowel preparation. Non-invasive fecal occult blood tests or fecal immunochemical tests are available; however, their sensitivity is relatively low. Syndecan-2 (SDC2) is a stool-based DNA methylation marker used for early detection of CRC. Using the EarlyTect™-Colon Cancer test, the sensitivity and specificity of SDC2 methylation in stool DNA for detecting CRC were previously demonstrated to be greater than 90%. Therefore, a larger trial to validate its use for CRC screening in asymptomatic populations is now required.

Cirrhosis is associated with changes in intestinal microbiota that can lead to hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and infections, especially with antibiotic-resistant organisms. However, the impact of gut microbial antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) burden on clinical outcomes is unclear. The aims of the study were to determine the impact of ARGs in cirrhosis-related gut metagenome on outcomes and disease progression, study the effect of rifaximin on ARG burden, and compare ARGs in cirrhosis with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetes.
6192. The impact of direct-acting antiviral treatment on glycemic homeostasis in patients with chronic hepatitis C.
There is robust epidemiological evidence suggesting the link of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Viral clearance achieved by direct acting antiviral agents (DAAs) has been associated to significant improvements in glycometabolic control but data on the long-term effect of sustained virological response (SVR) on diabetic disease are limited. The aim of this review is to evaluate the influence of SVR after DAA-based therapy on insulin resistance (IR) and DM incidence in non-diabetic patients, on the glycemic homeostasis in diabetic patients and on their long-term hepatic and metabolic outcomes.
6193. Impact of direct antiviral agents (DAAs) on B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in patients with chronic hepatitis C.
The relationship between HCV infection and extrahepatic manifestations has been demonstrated by epidemiological, clinical, immunological, and pathological studies. Patients with HCV infection have an increased risk of morbidity and mortality related to these non-liver diseases. For these reasons, HCV chronic infection should be considered a systemic disease in which extrahepatic manifestations increase the severity of the disease.

The prevalence of Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing and emerging as a global health burden. In addition to environmental factors, numerous studies have shown that genetic factors play an important role in the development of NAFLD. Copy number variation (CNV) as a genetic variation plays an important role in the evaluation of disease susceptibility and genetic differences. The aim of the present study was to assess the contribution of CNV to the evaluation of NAFLD in a Chinese population.
