Postoperative mortality and morbidity rates are high in patients with obstructing colon cancer (OCC). Different treatment options have been evaluated over the years, mainly for left sided OCC. Optimising the preoperative health condition in elective colorectal cancer (CRC) treatment shows promising results. The aim of this study is to determine whether preoptimisation is feasible in patients with OCC, with a special interest/focus on right-sided OCC, and if, ultimately, optimisation reduces mortality and morbidity (stoma rates, major and minor complications) rates in OCC.

Inflammatory bowel disease is an uncommon disease in developing nations whereby patient's knowledge on the disease may be limited. The CCKNOW questionnaire, a widely known questionnaire to assess patient's knowledge on the disease, may be too complex to comprehend for patients in developing countries. The aim of this study is to develop a new tool known as AIBDKQ questionnaire to evaluate the local inflammatory bowel disease patient's knowledge.

Thrombocytopenia due to hypersplenism is a major complication of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated cirrhosis. HCV eradication improves these complications in some patients, but the long-term effects of HCV eradication on these complications remain unclear, especially in patients treated with direct acting antivirals (DAAs). The aim was to evaluate long term changes in thrombocytopenia and leucopenia after HCV eradication with DAAs.

Partial splenic embolization (PSE) is a non-surgical procedure which was initially used to treat hypersplenism. Furthermore, partial splenic embolization can be used for the treatment of different conditions, including gastroesophageal variceal hemorrhage. Here, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of emergency and non-emergency PSE in patients with gastroesophageal variceal hemorrhage and recurrent portal hypertensive gastropathy bleeding due to cirrhotic (CPH) and non-cirrhotic portal hypertension (NCPH).

In partnership with a federally qualified health center (FQHC), an adapted virtual version of boot camp translation (BCT) was used to elicit input from Spanish-speaking Latino patients and staff to develop messaging and patient education materials for follow-up colonoscopy after abnormal fecal testing. We describe how we adapted an existing in-person BCT process to be delivered virtually and present evaluations from participants on the virtual format.

Recognition of early signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) in patients with hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) undergoing endoscopic surveillance is challenging. We hypothesized that probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) might help diagnose early cancerous lesions in the context of HDGC. Histological evaluation by liver biopsy is considered the gold standard for assessing liver disease; however, it is highly invasive. Non-invasive liver stiffness measurement by shear wave elastography (SWE) is effective for evaluating the hepatic fibrosis stage and related diseases. In this study, we investigated the correlations of liver stiffness with hepatic inflammation/fibrosis, functional hepatic reserve, and related diseases in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD).
3657. The risk for celiac disease after Covid-19 infection.
Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disease leading to gastrointestinal symptoms and mineral deficiencies. The pathogenetic mechanisms, besides the clear HLA association, are elusive. Among environmental factors infections have been proposed. Covid-19 infection results in a systemic inflammatory response that often also involves the gastrointestinal tract. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether Covid-19 infection could increase the risk for CD.
